Chairman Norm Thompson has announced.
Mr Cossar has been appointed to head Te Puia, New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute in Rotorua, one of New Zealand's premier tourism attractions.
"On behalf of TIA's board of directors, I would like wish Tim all the best for his future and thank him for his efforts at TIA in the last three years," Mr Thompson said.
"He has been instrumental in lifting the profile of the visitor economy with government and other decision makers. Tim has shown real leadership through one of the most challenging periods the tourism industry has ever faced. In that time, TIA has made tangible progress on a range of issues affecting the tourism industry and provided strong support to the Association's 1700 members.
"We look forward to working with Tim in his new role."
Mr Cossar took over as Chief Executive of TIA in July 2008. He has a strong background in the tourism industry, including heading Positively Wellington Tourism and Tourism Rotorua (now Destination Rotorua Marketing).
The search for a new Chief Executive for TIA would begin immediately, Mr Thompson said.
