Straight from the minbar it provides a safe, cold refreshing drink that often tastes better than tap water as it doesn't contain chemicals used in the treatment of public water supplies, such as chlorine and fluoride. It also eases travellers concerns about getting ill on a trip.
While some argue that bottle water is no better than tap water, the majority of people drink bottled water because it is portable, accessible and a healthy choice compared with other sugar laden beverages.
For the travelling businessperson staying hydrated is also critical to their brain function and alertness as evidenced by a 2009 Toronto District School Board report that found 'a mere 2% drop in body water can trigger short-term fuzzy memory, trouble with basic math and difficulty focusing on a computer screen'.
It is fat and kilojoule free and a great thirst quencher, which makes it a great choice for health conscious consumers and New Zealand's high number of people with diabetes and those watching their waistlines. Which is all good news for accommodation operators as bottled water can boost their bottom line.
As an extra bonus property owners can now have water with their own label on the bottle stocked in their mini bars.
Your H²O sells the personalised square bottles in three sizes: 350ml, 600ml and 1.5 litres. The bottles are sealed with tamper-evident twist-off caps.
"Our promotional water allows accommodation owners to connect their brand with the goodwill and health benefits of pure spring water," owner Simon Doughty said. "We take their logo and message and professionally print it on the bottle's label. The square bottle format provides high visibility for their message and is mobile marketing that puts their property's name on their guests' lips.
"They can look professional with their own branded spring water without the requirement to place large orders.
"We believe that connecting their brand with the goodwill and health benefits of drinking pure water gives them the opportunity to promote good business together with good health."
Mr Doughty said the water was micro-filtered and passed through an ultra-violet process to destroy any contaminants or bacteria before being bottled and met all New Zealand standards.
Their website allows property owners to upload their logo and see how it looks on the bottle.
Another company, Nude H²O is addressing the recycling issue by distributing their premium sparkling water in glass bottles. Director Katriya De Vincentiis said Nude H²0 from the natural springs minimised the carbon footprint while producing tastier and healthier bottled water without the use of additives or plastic.
"The effects of bottled water on the environment extend further than the landfill. While glass bottles do a lot to eliminate the plastic waste that ends up in our landfills, it is easy to overlook the carbon footprint that production and transportation leave behind," Mrs De Vincentiis said.
"We conducted extensive research into how far bottled water travels to end up with the consumer via restaurants, cafés and retailers. The results were staggering which prompted the creation of Nude H²0.
"By sourcing and bottling water locally we are able to provide an eco-water that has no additives making it a healthier option for consumers while supporting our local economy.
"We are not a big multi-national company, we are not even a small multi-national company, we are just two people who wanted to make a difference to the world we live in. We would like to thank our new customers for supporting us in our quest to save our environment."
