The Enviro Awards foster, recognise and reward innovative businesses that show a high degree of commitment to caring for their environment and community. The Awards commend top performers in five key areas including energy efficiency, waste management, water conservation, community activities and conservation initiatives.
"Receiving official recognition for our social and environmental achievements is an important step for Hilton Lake Taupo. Since opening in November 2009, we have placed a strong emphasis on both environmental and social sustainability, activities that have assisted both our environment and the local Taupo community" – says Hotel Manager Clinton Farley – "We are extremely pleased with what we have achieved in the past two years having won numerous industry awards, this recognition of our robust sustainability practices is well received."
Hilton Lake Taupo's Qualmark Enviro Gold recognition compliments the recent Hilton Worldwide announcement of achieving ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and 14001 (Environment Management) certification. ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 are international standards that provide a set of standardised requirements for quality and environmental management systems, respectively.
Of some credit is the Hilton Worldwide Light Stay application, a Hilton owned system of measurement that calculates sustainability performance for each property, across a global portfolio of 3,800 hotels in 88 countries. The system's data is used to reduce impact, improve the guest experience and drive economic returns.
The LightStay™ system analyzes performance across 200 operational practices, such as housekeeping, paper product usage, food waste, chemical storage, air quality, and transportation.
LightStay™ also provides a "meeting impact calculator" feature that calculates the environmental impact of any meeting or conference held at a property.
With sustainability as important criteria for business decisions, achievement of the Enviro Gold Award for Hilton Lake Taupo affirms the hotel's position not only in providing an exceptional level of five star hospitality in New Zealand's central North Island but also as a leader in meeting the sustainable objectives of conference and meeting organizers.
